At New England Spas, we’re incredibly proud to give back to those who have served our country. We’ve once again partnered with the Wish for Our Heroes Foundation and Sundance® Spas to provide free hot tubs to three local veterans. It’s a small way to say “thank you” for their bravery and sacrifice.
Meet the Veterans
Let’s introduce the incredible veterans we’re honoring:
Robert Shaw | Norton, MA
Robert served in the U.S. Army as an electronic technician, specializing in repairing microwave and multiplexing communication equipment. He was stationed at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, before being transferred to Augsburg, Germany, where he finished his enlistment during the challenging post-Vietnam era.
After his military service, Shaw joined his father, who also served in the military, in running a car leasing company. Deeply committed to helping fellow veterans, Shaw actively assists others in navigating the VA system, helping to ensure they receive the benefits and services they are entitled to.
Matthew Leisy | Somerset, MA
Matthew served as a Detachment Officer in Charge of the Tactical Law Enforcement Team South, where he led a team of specialists deployed on U.S. Coast Guard and Navy warships to combat organized crime in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific.
Subsequently, Leisy was a Command Duty Officer who oversaw the daily operations of a multi-state region from Maine to New Jersey. During his service, Leisy earned a Navy Achievement Medal and served as a subject matter expert for over 100 search and rescue operations.
Since his military service, Leisy has transitioned to a role as a consultant at Deloitte where he is actively involved in veteran support initiatives.
Jonathan Daige | Cherry Valley, MA
Jonathan served in the U.S. Army for eight years including deployments to Iraq. Daige was selected as Soldier of the Year for the New England Area in 2004. In addition to his service in the military, Daige has continued to dedicate his life to public service as a police officer in Worcester, MA.
He is currently battling cancer, which has been linked to his previous deployments. Since his military service Daige founded Thinblueride.org, a nonprofit organization that raises funds for veterans and first responders who are fighting cancer.
How Hot Tubs Help Veterans
You might wonder how a hot tub can make such a difference. For these veterans, it’s more than just a relaxing soak.
Hot tubs provide real health benefits and can help provide the relief and support veterans need, especially those facing physical ailments from their deployments.
While hydrotherapy has been closely linked with numerous health benefits, the most notable for veterans include:
- Physical relief: The heat, buoyancy, and jet massage help ease muscle and joint pain while promoting circulation, which can help support the recovery of damaged tissue.
- Improved Sleep: The jets in a Sundance®️ Spa offer soothing relaxation, easing away tension for full body relaxation. This paired with the temperature change after leaving the water can help promote better sleep.
- Stress reduction: Hot tubs aren’t just for the body—they help the mind, too. Soaking in a spa can reduce stress and promote relaxation. It’s a great way to unwind after a long day.
New England Spas’ Commitment to Veterans
Over the course of the last 40+ years we’ve been serving the New England area, we’ve provided a total of 13 Sundance®️ Spas to veterans and their families as part of our ongoing commitment to this program.
The feedback received from veterans we’ve provided spas to has been incredibly rewarding—they’ve shared how the spas help relieve pain, improve sleep, offer a space to bond with family members, and ultimately enhance their quality of life.
Everyone at New England Spas feels incredibly proud to be part of this program. Knowing that we’re making a difference in the lives of veterans is so rewarding. We’ve seen firsthand how these hot tubs improve their quality of life, and that’s what drives us to keep going.
Looking Ahead to The Future
We’ve been serving the New England area since 1978, providing quality hot tubs, swim spas, saunas, and excellent service. Giving back to the community is part of who we are, and we’re especially honored to support our veterans in such an impactful way.
We’re excited to continue working with the Wish for Our Heroes Foundation and Sundance® Spas in the future. We hope to provide many more veterans with the comfort and relief that a hot tub can bring.
